Saturday night the Vegas Golden Knights dominated the Vancouver Canucks. Vegas ended up with an 18% scoring percentage. With Eakin, Nosek, Stastny, Tuch, Schmidt, and Stone all scoring goals. Stone would score his first career goal as a Vegas Golden Knight and Tuch had his first 3-point game of his NHL career. Both teams were pretty evenly matched stat wise except the Knights showed excellent puck control with only 2 giveaways all game. This has been the new trend on the Knights in the Stone Age. The Knights capped off the season series with Canucks winning 3 out of 4 with a 6-2 victory.
The Knights caught fire in Vegas but the Flames had the last laugh by burning the Knights win streak to the ground. The first period The Flames jumped to an early lead going up 2-0 in the first 8 minutes of the game. Brandon Pirri banked his 11th goal of the season and snapping a 6 game drought. The Flames Matthew Tkachuk would answer with a goal with only a 1:02 left in the period. Calgary would leave the period blocking 6 of the Golden Knights shot leaving them with only 9 shots on goal to their 12.
The Knights came out in the 2nd and got back in the game with back to back goals in the first minute and 20 seconds into the period. Smith registered his 14th point in the last 14 games. Stone got his second goal as a Knight and his career high 30th goal on the season. Colin Miller and Sam Bennett got into some shenanigans on the blue line cross checking each other for offsetting penalties. Miller sat for 2 for his cross check and Bennett would get a double minor 2 for cross check and 2 for roughing. The Knight only had one shot on goal during the PP. The Knights would go on having 7 blocked shots, 6 shots missing the goal. The Flames defense was on fire while Knights seems to possessed the puck most of the period. Then with 2:10 seconds left in the period Jon Merrill would get 2 for tripping. With 12 seconds left on the power play and 22 seconds left in the period Mikael Backlund closed things out with a goal assisted by Andersson & Czarnik. This goal insured me that I will never be able to tell you what goalie interference is but in an over head view it looks like Malcom Subban was reaching out of the crease with his glove hand which got caught on one of Calgary's players in a net battle setting the screen. Malcom Subban at the end of period would lose his cool skating up to the ref giving him a piece of his mind resulting in an unsportsmanlike conduct. Jonathan Marchessault would serve the penalty to start the 3rd period.
The Knights had plenty of shots on goal in the 3rd but could not get the puck to get the game tied up. Matthew Tkachuk would go on to score 2 goals in the 3rd completing his first career hat trick, one of his goals coming by empty net. I am sure his old man is proud. The Flames had TWENTY ONE giveaways throughout the game! T
he Knights failed to convert these turnovers in to points with bad shots. Only getting 28 shoots on goal while the Flames had 35 shots on goal for the game. The Knights blocked and missed shots would help the Flames come up with odd man rushes and their couple of good possession that killed the Knights. The Knights will move on to play Dallas on Friday and hopefully get another winning streak started with the team they started the last one with.
