KNIGHTS CATCHING FIRE

KNIGHTS CATCHING FIRE

March 6th 2019

Before the start of the game, The Fortress would honor NHL legend, Ted Lindsay with a moment of silence. The Knights entered the match coming off the high of a four-game winning streak, albeit against lackluster teams. The Calgary Flames were looking to avoid a 3-game skid and add to their road win streak. The game definitely had a playoff feel to it with these two division rivals going head to head.

Penalties plagued the Flames early on, and the Knights were able to capitalize on those mistakes with a perfect PP goal from Theodore. That goal marks 11 goals for Theodore this season and 64 points for Mr. Mark Stone. With Shea's goal he set the franchise record for goals in a season by a defenseman. Mark Stone tied his career best on points in a season.

Johnny Gaudreau put the biscuit in the basket and tried to sneak one by Flower, however Gallant’s coach’s challenge would show Matthew Tkachuk catching the right hand and stick of Marc Andre Fleury. This would have been a career high for Gaudreau. The Flames continued to cripple themselves in the first period, showing a bad overall effort.

The Knights started off the 2nd on a Power Play. They weren’t able to capitalize on that but the effort didn’t look bad either. The Flames continued with their undisciplined play and the Knights joined them with some messy hockey! VGK successfully killed 2 penalties, completely robbing The Flames of their Power Play.

Halfway through the 2nd and just 1 second after the Knights killed the penalty, Flames Travis Hamonic scored a goal off the assist of the hot handed Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk. Up until this point, Fleury had gone 200 minutes and 1 second between goals.

There was a bit of a melee throughout the rest of the period both Stastny and Backlund got boxed for roughing. While closing out the 4 on 4 Tkachuk crashed right into Fleury. Screams of DON’T TOUCH MY GOALIE were heard very loudly in our living room!

Miller and the Flower gave Tkachuk the business. Tkachuk jumped up tied up will Miller going to the ice and getting right up to get in Fleury’s face and Fleury came back at him along with the rest of the Golden Knights. This almost sparked a huge brawl between these rivals. Miller received a 2 for roughing and Tkachuk received 2 for roughing and 2 for goalie interference.

The Knights started off the 3rd on another PP that the Flames promptly killed off. Both teams played well in the 3rd but the Knights would show a little more than the Flames. Sometimes just a little bit more is all you need. VGK maintained their defensive play with cleaner puck possession then they had shown in the 2nd. A key takeaway by Jonathan Marchessault would set up the play that would eventually link up to Deryk Engelland and whaddaya know, Deryk put the wrister home! This ended a 37 game drought from Engo. The goal was assisted by Reilly Smith and William Karlsson. With this assist # 19 got his 100th point as a Vegas Golden Knight.
The Flames pulled David Rittich with 2:34 left on the clock leaving the net wide open and empty. I do love an empty netter, but it was not to be. Engelland’s goal was the game winning goal against his former team. Fleury ended the game with 33 saves and a .971 save percentage. This moving him up to 8th on the all-time wins list with a total of 437 wins.

5 outta 5 looks good this time of year and I am excited to see what the boys have!!!

RAIDERS PICK TRAYVON MULLEN

Also in this trade to Jacksonville the Raiders moved their 140th pick and the 240th pick for Jacksonville's 109th pick. The Raiders traded back once again moving Jacksonville's 38th pick to Buffalo for the Bills 40th and 158th pick getting back their a 5th round pick they traded away in the Jacksonville trade. The Raiders moved back 5 picks in the second round. Moved back 18 picks in the 5th round. Traded a 7th pick for a early fourth round pick.  THE 8th PICK IN THE 2nd ROUND CB TRAYVON MULLEN The Raiders add to their defensive backfield with the 40th overall pick in the 2019 draft with Trayvon Mullen. Mullen is the 2nd player drafted from Clemson's National Championship team by Raiders. Mullen is also is the cousin of Baltimore Ravens Quarterback Lamar Jackson. FULL DRAFT FOR THE RAIDERS

The Raiders with the 4th overall pick drafted Clemson's DE Clelin Ferrell a player projected to be a middle first round pick. The Raider had the least amount of sacks in the league this last year. He is consisted a high character guy. He was red shirted his freshman year in college due to a torn ACL in high school. His 3 years in college he did not miss a game and had 27 sacks. Last year he tallied up 11.5 sacks during the National Championship run for Clemson. This may not be what Raiders fans want at the number 4 pick BUT this may be what the Raiders need a good piece to help with sacks and a high character guy to collect the big pay check for a high first round pick. He shows no quit and has a good work ethic in college and a strong family with a military background. This type of behavior can be a contagious for a locker room in the NFL. He was number #2 on the Raiders draft board 2nd to only Nick Bosa. The Raiders with the 24th pick select running back Josh Jacobs form...
