The Knights put together another stellar win by beating the Oilers 6-3. This is the second time this year the Knights have put a hurt on the Oilers, and the second time Marchessault would score 2 goals in a victory over the Oilers. I got to say, I love consistency. The Knights came out hot by putting some shots on goal and the Oilers tried to set the tone physically. At 5 minutes and 40 seconds into the first period, Mark Stone got his first goal as a Golden Knight in T-Mobile Arena. The goal was assisted by William Karlsson. Mark Stone now has 6 points in the last 5 games. Shortly after the goal, Ryan Reaves tried to block a nasty slap shot by Kris Russell... with his face. It was a scary moment for Reavo lovers for sure. Edmonton went on a power play that led to a goal that tied things up. Nugent-Hopkins slid one past Malcolm Subban, with an apple by none other than Connor McDavid and Oscar Klefbom. The Knights came up short on 2 power plays but eventually closed out the period with a goal from Cody Freakin’Eakin. Tomas Nosek and Ryan Carpenter were credited with assists.
The Oilers, Leon Draisaitl wasted no time getting things tied up. McDavid racked up yet another point with an assist. The Knights answered back within 2 minutes with a Marchessault goal assisted by his line mates Wild Bill and Smith to reclaim the lead. The 2nd period went on with the Knights playing hard on defense and getting blocked shots and takeaways. The 3rd started up with Marchessault getting his 2nd goal of the game and Reilly Smiths 2nd assist. Making the score 4-2 in favor of the Knights. Marchies goal would end up being the game winning goal. Edmonton's next and final goal of the game would come from Kris Russell's terrific blue line shot goal assisted Jujhar Kahair and Sam Granger. This goal gave the Oilers a sliver of hope for about the next 4 minutes. Brayden McNabb would have one roll by Koskinen . . . literally, the puck rolled right past him. The goal was assisted by Theodore and Reaves although Bellemare skating by in a battle for position came into contact with Koskinen as it rolled by him. With Herculean effort, Carpenter dove to push the puck in past the line but the goal was already good. This goal was absolutely challenged by the Oilers. I would have to say I thought it would be goalie interference BUT it was not. Which proves that I STILL have no idea what constitutes Goaltender Interference. The Knights went go on a 3rd power play where they came up short again. The final goal of the game came heads up in a defensive takeaway by Alex Tuch. Tuch skated right in untouched and put the puck in the back of the net.
