The battle is upon us! The Vegas Golden Knights will face their first tough opponent since the trade deadline. Vegas is a definitely different team since adding Mark Stone, but the red hot Flames and old friend, James Neal will be coming into Vegas with a 7-2-1 record in their last 10 games. Calgary is currently the top team in the West and second in the NHL with 89 points. The Flames might have dropped their last 2 games at home, but they still remain hot on the road and they’re looking to extend their four-game winning streak on the road. Will the Knights be ready to defend the Fortress against the Flames?
The Flames are 2-2 in their last 4 games since the trade deadline, and they have faced strong opponents. Three of the teams are in playoff position. Even though the Flames have gone .500 in their last 4 games, they do have that winning streak on the road and will be looking to add to it. They have the best in the West this season on the road with 21-11-2 record. This will be no easy task for the Knights, but will be one of the big tests that helps us find out where the Vegas Golden Knights are going to rank among a top-tier team. The Flames will bring the Heat with the hot-handed scoring defenseman Mark Giordano who is #3 in the NHL among Defensivmen with 62 points on the the season. The Flames will also be bringing in two 30 goal scorers Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan.Gaudreau is #4 overall point leader in the NHL with 84.
Here is what we know about The Vegas Golden Knights. They are now 4-0 since the adding Stone and the Knights seem to be returning to their winning ways. Marc Andre Fleury has been nothing less than brilliant between the pipes, showing his excellence with back-to-back shutouts. Flower was named NHLs 1st Star of the Week with a .987 save percentage over his last 3 wins.
We can't stress this enough, the Vegas Golden Knights have absolutely stepped it up as team since the addition of Mark Stone in the takeaway department. Stone seems to take away a big portion of the ice tighten up lanes with his defensive play. Although he has not put the biscuit in the basket since becoming a Golden Knight; he has added a spark to his fellow linesmen. Patches has tallied up 3 goals in his last 4 games and Paul Stastny has come alive with a goal and 4 assists since Stones addition. They have been absolutely amazing together and it seems to be rubbing off on the rest of the team weather they are on the ice with Stone or not.
The Vegas Golden Knights have been impressive, sure BUT here comes the kicker: The Knights in the last 4 games have only faced one team that is in a playoff spot. The others teams have not looked good at all. The Canucks have only won 2 of their last 10, The Ducks are 1-3 since the trade deadline and it seems like they will continue to struggles as they fall deeper into the abyss. The Panthers are just 1-4 since the trade deadline and 10 points out of a wildcard spot in the East which leaves them as a middle of nowhere type of team.
The Knights have gained the confidence & momentum they need to win games but will it be enough to put out those pesky Flames. It looks like a pretty even matched up but their maybe an ace in the hole that gives the Knights a chance for victory. The Flames in their last 4 games have 76 giveaways and only 26 takeaways! This is right where the Knights have been hitting the accelerator. The Knights are a team that has learned how to add pressure to opposing teams again and this in my opinion being there new found glory. This makes for the perfect storm. The Flames maybe a strong team but when you have everyone making mistakes on their team it maybe a hard thing to correct rolling into the fortress but only tomorrow will tell.
