The Knights came into the night starting the original 3 Smith Karlsson and Marchessault. The Sharks scored their only goal in regulation with 9 seconds left in the 1st period. The goal came off a major error from Engelland when he pulled off the back check to pressure the puck on a hundred foot pass across the ice. Meier got a hold of the puck getting into the offensive zone for the Sharks giving Couture the open lane to the net. Couture drew MAF out the crease which gave Couture the glove side with 9 seconds left in the period. Meier was the only Shark credited with the assist due to Engellands efforts on the play. The Sharks had 9 SOG, 9 hits, 6 blocked shots, 5 takeaways and 1giveaways. The Knights ended the period with 10 SOG, 25 hits, 5 blocked shots, 3 takeaways, and 3 giveaways.
The Knights let loose in the second period with 17 shots on goal getting one past Jones. The goal came Marchessault assisted by Karlsson and Theodore with 8 minutes and 40 seconds left in the period. The goal came after a barrage of shots on goal. The shots started with Marchessault, then Karlsson, then Theodore and finally back to Marchy. Marchy gave the puck a little kick off his skake to his stick lifting puck over a sprawled out Martin Jones. The Knights dominated the period with the 17 SOG, 19 hits, 9 blocked shots, 11 takeaways, and 2 giveaways. The Sharks not so much with 7 SOG, 6 hits, 7 blocked shots, 5 takeaways, and 1 giveaway.
The Knights started the 3rd period were they had 50 seconds left on the PK from a slashing penalty from Marchy at the end of the second. The Knights again put 17 shots on goal again, 15 hits, 6 blocked shots, 5 takeaways, and 2 giveaways. The Sharks again out played by the Knights with only 4 shots on goal, 12 hits, 6 blocked shots, 4 takeaways, and 1 giveaway. Regulation stats showed a well played dominated game by the Knights and an amazing game by Sharks goaltender Martin Jones. In actual game play the Knights took low quality shots and around 14 critical shots on goal through out the regulation giving Jones an excellent game in the stat books. The game was decided in the second overtime by a shorthanded goal on a giveaway from Mark Stone. The SHG came from Hertl assisted by Vlasic taking the wind out of T-Mobile Arena
The Knights have dropped the last 2 games allowing the Sharks to regain momentum in the series. The series will be decided in San Jose in a game 7. Looking over the series both teams have plenty of room to blame the refs and for bad officiating, both teams have had bad puck possession in their loses, but there is a X-Factor in this series and his name is Marc and it isn't Marc Andre Fleury. Marc Edouard Vlasic is the defenseman for the Sharks. He has only played in 4 of the playoff games and the Sharks have won 3 of those 4. The only game the Sharks lost with Vlasic he was only on the ice for 7 minutes because he left the game with an injury. The games the Knights beat the Sharks I couldn't help but notice the Knights had no problem entering the zone and dangling their way through the defense. This has not been the case when Vlasic is playing. He is on the ice on average of just over 23 minutes in regulation and in the OT loss he was on the ice over 37 minutes. The only player on the Sharks that averaged more minutes on the ice than him is Burns and Karlsson both known for their offensive output. For a game 7 to be successful for the Knights they are going to have to work around Vlasic's shifts and work on protecting the puck when he is on the ice.
