The Playoffs are in full affect and read to go. The Stanley Cup playoffs spark a whole new energy to the game and is totally different game. Just because a team dominates the regular season doesn't mean it will carry over. Some of the worst teams to make the playoffs become some of the deadliest in the tournament. Defensive play reaches a whole new level of play along with the physical aspect of the game.
The Knights and the Sharks will faceoff in the Tank in San Jose. Looking back at a split season series between the Knights and the Sharks the Knights came out on top 2-1-1 in the points department. The Knights heavily outscored the Sharks over these four games 18 to 10. We will take a look at the past games from this season between the Sharks and the Knights.
Game 1: 11/24/18 Knights shutout the Sharks 6-0. MAF had his first back to back shutouts as a Golden Knight with 33 saves. Dell would be in net the whole night taking a total of 36 shots on goal with 30 saves. The Knights William Karlsson scored the fastest goal in VGK history that night 14 seconds after puck drop. The Sharks had a total of 10 penalties to the Knights 6. They were about even in blocked shots with the Sharks having 17 to the Knights 16. The Knight would crush the Sharks in takeaways 17 to the Sharks 6 and the Sharks had 8 giveaways to the Knights 7. The Sharks were the more Physical team having 33 hits to the Knights 25.
Game 2: 1/10/19 The Sharks won game two 3-2 in a close fought game. The Sharks scored back to back goals in the 3rd only 39 seconds apart solidify the win. It was Vanlentin Zykov first game as a Golden Knight. The Knights even with the loss out shot the Sharks 38 to 27. It was a pretty calm game with the Sharks having 3 penalties and the Knights having 2. Both teams did great on the defensive or they just liked shooting the puck at each other the Knights 22 blocked shots and the Sharks 20. The Knights would have the upper hand against in the takeaway department once again with 16 to the Sharks 11 and the Knights would have 9 giveaways to the Sharks 4. The Knights would step the their physical game with 32 hits to the Sharks 34
Game 3: 3/18/19 The Knights rolled over the Sharks in the absence of Flower 7-3. VGKs top line had a combined total of 10 points. Smith with 1 goal and 3 apples, Marchy with 2 goals and 2 apples, and Wild Bill getting in the mix with a goal and an assist too. The Sharks had two of their best players out in this game Erik Karlsson and Joe Pavelski which did change the dynamics of the team. Team play the Knight Knights would have 42 Shoots on goal while the Sharks would have 39. Both teams would have 6 minor penalties. The Knights had 14 blocked shots to the Sharks 5. The Knights finished with 13 takeaways to the Sharks 10 and the Knights would make better decisions with the puck having 6 giveaways to the the Sharks 11. The Sharks were the more physical team that nights wour 24 hit to the Knights 19
Game 4: 3/30/19 The regular season finale overtime game was won 4-3 by the Sharks. It was nice back and forth game with some fighting stick poking and goals. It is safe to say that the Sharks came along and Knocked the knights off their game in this one. Even though both teams at this point were on losing streaks. The Sharks still missing their top two players in this one plus Melker Karlsson and Lukas Radil. The Knights still without their Flower in net also McNabb, Stastny, and Bellemare would all sit this one out too. In this exhibition fighting hockey match the Sharks out shot the Knights 34 to 26. The Knights had 8 (27 mins) penalties to the Sharks 6 (15 mins). The Knight would again block more shots 13 to the Sharks 9. The Sharks played better with and without the puck in this one with 8 takeaways to the Knights 7, and 8 giveaways to the Knights 10. This game had the feel of bad blood and a playoff game with both teams with 40 hits.
