PLAYOFF PREVIEW

The Sharks and the Knights wasted no time setting the tone on Saturday night. Karlsson and company got things rolling with an early goal in the first 4 minutes of the period. He was assisted by line mates Reilly Smith and Jonathan Marchessault. Shortly after the goal things continued to heat up as Marcus Sorensen and Colin Miller both got offsetting penalties. Sorensen was called for interference and Miller for  unsportsmanlike conduct. The game remained physical and eventually a brawl broke out. As the Golden Knights protect their net minder, Joe Thornton jabbed his stick in Ryan Reaves throat as the referee was in-between them. Reaves tried to go after him and Thornton tried to poke the bear again. Teammates from both teams came in while Engelland, Carrier, and Schmitt came in to toss around a few of the Sharks trying to get involved. In the end Ryan Reaves was called for 10 minutes misconduct and roughing against Thornton which was served by Alex Tuch. Thornton was called...

LOSING COMES TO AN END

The Knights lost another to the Wild at T-Mobile, but with the fall of the Coyotes the Fortress lit up with excitement when the final score was posted to the jumbotron during the 2nd intermission. The Wild came out with more urgency, putting in enough effort in the 1st to carryover for the rest of the game. The Knights fought back, but the defensive play of the Wild in the 1st and 3rd was too much for the Knights to overcome. The Wild blocked a total of 20 shots in these periods and 23 throughout the whole game. The Knights had 37 shots on goal; falling short of their magic number of 42 which gives them the win. The Wild came away with the win 3-2. The Knights have never scored more than 2 goals in a game when  facing the Wild.   THE 3 STARS OF THE GAME STAR 1: PAUL STASTNY 2 GOALS STAR 2: MARK STONE 1 ASSIST STAR 3: JASON ZUCKER 2 ASSISTS  Moving on . . . ANOTHER WILD KNIGHT IN VEGAS?

Vegas will face off against Minnesota on Friday night for the final time in a regular season. Vegas needs 1 point to clinch a playoff spot. Minnesota has been losing game after game, and has dropped out of the final wildcard spot. They now are depending on the Yotes and Avs to lose games while they are 4 points back for the final wildcard spot. The Wild will be hungry for a win and Minnesota has shown nothing but dominance when facing Vegas. The Wild have a record 4-0-1 against Vegas and they are the first team to sweep Vegas in a regular season series. To rub it in Vegas fans faces even more, the Wild have the only player that was raised in Vegas that plays in the NHL, Jason Zucker. Vegas only has one win against the Wild, and they have never beat Wild in the Fortress. The Vegas Golden Knights have never scored more than 2 goals in a game against Minnesota and Minnesota has never not won a game against Vegas scoring less than 4. The Wild have out scored the Knights 18-9. Ne...

KNIGHTS HIT BY THE AVALANCHE

The Knights came into Colorado looking for 1 point to clinch a playoff spot. Gallant made some key changes to the line up looking for a spark. Nosek played with Stastny and Tuch and Stone was lined up with his Winnipeg buddy Cody Eakin. Bellemare is back, helping to get that utility back together. On defense Theodore replaced Nick Holden.  The Avalanche came out in the first with all the momentum in this one killing off an early penalty taken by Derick Brassard. The Knights didn't get one shot on goal during the PP.  Pauly Walnuts was called for high sticking on Sam Girard. With 17 seconds left on the power play for the Avs; Nathan MacKinnon scored a goal. 10 minutes and 3 seconds into the period, Braden McNabb got the Knights 2nd shot on goal. The Knights had a combined 7 shots that were ether blocked or just missed the goal. The period ended with the Avs in complete control of the game. The knights had a total of 7 SOG to the Avs 12. The Avs had an amazing 9 blocked...

ST LOUIS GIVES VEGAS THE BLUES

Both the Blues and the Knights came into this game looking to clinch playoff spots. The Knights were looking for 1 and the Blues were looking for 2. The Knights headed to St. Louis after a tough loss on Saturday night and the Blues are heating up by winning their last 3 in a row. The Knights have some key players out, Max Pacioretty, MAF, Pierre Edouard Bellemare and  Shea Theodore were out for this game. This is Shea Theodore's 2nd missed game all season. Colin Miller was activated, taking Shea's spot.  Fun facts about ex-teammates Paul Stastny and Alex Steen; they are 2 of 4 active players in the NHL that are part of a father/son duo that have more than 600 career points in the NHL. After Paul Stastny was traded to the Winnipeg Jets he contacted his ex teammate Steen to ask him and his father if it was ok if he wore Thomas Steen's number 25. The Steen's joined the Stastnys, Howes, Hulls in elite hockey families. The game started out bad on both ends w...

DETRIOT WHAT!?!

Vegas played their final game against the Eastern Division on Saturday night. The Vegas Golden Knights mixed it up on their lines a little bit. Tuch was  bumped up to the second in the absence of Max Pacioretty. On the utility line, Carrier returned to deliver the boom and Tomas Nosek was in for Bellemare at center. The 3rd line looked completely different for Cody Eakin, he was paired with Valentin Zykov and Ryan Carpenter. Zykov played 5 games for the Knights and scored 1 goal after he was claimed of waivers from the Oilers. His last game played was on February 9th against the Blue Jackets. One thing about Zykov . . . He's faaaaaaaast Detroit came out heavy and at 3:06 into the period a shot on goal was rebounded for a nice pass through the crease for an easy tap in,  leaving Malcom Subban hanging out to dry. The goal was scored by Luke Glendening assisted by Taro Hisrose and Andreas Athanasiou.  Detroit played well with good puck possession. Jimmy Howard and Mal...

SUUUUUB!!!

The Knights came out fighting. . .  literally as Mark Stone laid a hit on Blake Wheeler, gloves went flying immediately and these two went at it. Wheeler landed a couple of punches and pulled Stone to the ground. Stone snuck in a nice rabbit punch to finish things off as the referees broke it up. They were both hit with a 5 minute major. Not even a full minute later, William Karlsson got a lucky goal from the side of the net on Laurent Brossoit. The goal was assisted by Nick Holden and Jon Merrill. At 8 mintues and 26 seconds into the 1st Paul Stastny got a nice takeaway off Joe Morrow in the Knights offensive zone and quickly assisted Reilly Smith with a  sweet sweet goal. Smith's goal came with a little a toe drag as Joe Morrow tried to recover the turnover by laying in front of  Smith but with great patience Smith took his time "as quick as he can" to take a quality shot to bank his 16th goal of the season! The Knights played hard with an awesome forecheck and d...

JETS FLYBY IN VEGAS

The Golden Knights vs the Jets. This will be the final meeting of these two teams. The Knights will be looking to avoid the season series sweep. The Jets have beaten the Knights out right in both games this year. Out scoring the Knights 10 to 4 but were they as dominant as the the scores might suggest? We think not!  So in a quick breakdown of the game in January. The Knights lost to the Jets in Winnipeg 4 to 1. The Knights absolutely crushed the Jets in shots on goal. The Knights put 44 shots on net as opposed to the Jets 27. The Jets were definitely the more physical team in this game. The Knights went 0 for 6 on the power play while killing off 2 of Winnipeg's. Both teams would come away in the same in the giveaway department. The Jets killed the Knights with 15 takeaways and to the Knights 4. Overall the Knights didn't take advantage of their PP opportunities and putting up bad shots on goal only coming away with 1 goal that game. The positive to this game is t...

THE KNIGHTS DRAIN THE TANK

This one started off.... Not awesome. Logan Couture scored  30 seconds into the game. We had a sense of impending doom. But Karly quickly answered with one of his own, and it was a whole new game from there! With a beauty of an assist, Wild Bill clocked his 20th of the season. An interference call on the Sharks Michael Hailey put the Knights on the Power Play. The Knights ended a  9 power play scoring drought with a goal from Mark Stone. Welcome to the Stone Age, Sharks! Marchy and Smith would each get their 2nd assists on the game. Things started to heat up between the Sharks and the Knights with a couple hits coming from allover the ice. Marchy and Kevin Labanc got offsetting penalties, making it 4 on 4. Old man Joe Thornton came though for the Sharks to get things tied up with an unassisted goal. The Knights answered back with Marchy knocking in his 20th goal of the season, again assisted by Reilly Smith. Both players picked up their 3 point of the game.  Th...

KNIGHTS ROLL ON BY THE OILERS

The Knights put together another stellar win by beating the Oilers 6-3. This is the second time this year the Knights have put a hurt on the Oilers, and the second time Marchessault would score 2 goals in a victory over the Oilers. I got to say, I love consistency. The Knights came out hot by putting some shots on goal and the Oilers tried to set the tone physically. At 5 minutes and 40 seconds into the first period, Mark Stone got his first goal as a Golden Knight in T-Mobile Arena. The goal was assisted by William Karlsson. Mark Stone now has 6 points in the last 5 games. Shortly after the goal, Ryan Reaves tried to block a nasty slap shot by Kris Russell... with his face. It was a scary moment for Reavo lovers for sure. Edmonton went on a power play that led to a goal that tied things up. Nugent-Hopkins slid one past Malcolm Subban, with an apple by none other than Connor McDavid and Oscar Klefbom. The Knights came up short on 2 power plays but eventually closed out the period wi...

Back Home for Saint Patrick's Day!

The Vegas Golden Knights will be hosting Conner McDavid and the Oilers for the 2019 Saint Paddy's day game. McDavid is finishing up his 3rd straight 100 point season. He joined an elite class of players to have multiple 100 point seasons by the age of 22. He joins The Great One Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Dale Hawerchuk and Sidney Crosby. He is the 19th player in history to record three 100 point seasons in a row. He is definitely a treat to watch even though his team is not.  Taking a look back at the short history of Oilers and the Knights; The Oilers have not been a good team the last two years but they have gotten the better of the Knights. The Oilers won 3 out of 4 last year and this year they have split the season series so far. The Knights finally got their first win in Edmonton this year. These two teams over the course of 6 games have scored a total of 39 goals. Overall Edmonton has out scored the Knights 21-18.   The Oilers have an obvious X-Fact...

STAR GAZING @ KNIGHT

The Vegas Golden Knights will be rolling into Dallas to finish off their last 3 game road trip of the season. The Knights came away with a win in a tight-played game thanks to some empty netters by Schmidty and Nabber. It was the game that sparked a 6-game win streak for the Knights and the Stars put together 4 in a row and splitting the next 2. Bishop has been nothing short (pun intended – Have you seen this dude?!) of amazing; this 6'7" monster clocks in at 6’10" on skates has had 3 shutouts in his last 3 starts. Bishop’s shutouts came against the Rangers, Avalanche, and the Sabers. Which isn't saying much but a shutout is a shutout and don't come easy. Every game for Dallas at this point is a must win. Dallas is looking to jump ahead of the Blues for the 3rd spot in the Central Division. I am sure Dallas doesn't want to risk the chance of slipping behind and becoming the 2nd Wildcard team, which at this point would have to face the Sharks in the first ...
